DC Water prioritizes providing safe drinking water and has taken extensive measures to reduce lead contamination. While the water is lead-free upon leaving the treatment facility and traveling through the distribution system, it can encounter lead from service lines, pipes, and plumbing around homes. The District of Columbia has over 42,000 service lines made of lead or galvanized iron, which DC Water aims to replace with copper. Under this contract, Spiniello contributed over 600 lead service replacements towards achieving the Lead Free Goal.
